Zimpost Launches PostMoney and Digital Money Order Service

Zimbabwe Posts (Pvt) Ltd (Zimpost), the leading postal, communication, and financial services provider in Zimbabwe, has launched a PostMoney Centre and digital money order service. The digitalised money order service will enable users to send multi-currencies, with delivery notifications within a day.

According to The Herald, the facility is available on all mobile networks and will facilitate the movement of pension, online payments, domestic and international remittances over the mobile phone.

Commenting on the transformation process of the post office at the launch in Harare yesterday, the acting Post-Master General, Dr. Isaac Muchokomori said “The future is digital and that future at the post office has arrived, as we are on a digital transformation journey.

“Top of the list to be digitalised is the Post Money Service, which has now been completely modernised from being paper-based, to electronic and now mobile-based. the establishment of the Post Money Centre, at the Greendale Post Office, was a clear testimony of their commitment to a total client services excellence”, he said.

The Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Deputy Minister, Dingumuzi Phuthi, applauded ZimPost for taking a step into digitalisation.

“It took too long for you to embark on the digitalisation of the postal services, but because you did, we congratulate you. The journey that you are moving in indicates to everyone that indeed, we are moving into the Smart Post Office era,” he said.

Deputy Minister Phuthi acknowledged and appreciated the role the Zimpost is playing in complementing the Government’s work in financial and digital inclusion, which is critical in the attainment of an empowered upper middle-income economy by 2030. He said the Vision 2030 of the country would be achieved through the collective aspiration and determination of citizens.

This move by Zimpost aligns with Zimbabwe’s financial inclusion strategy contained in its National Development Strategy 1 (NDS 1), which confirms financial inclusion as key in promoting inclusive growth by providing access to financial services, loans, credit, and insurance, as improving financial inclusion will entail increasing the percentage of financially included persons from 77% to 90% by 2025.

Zimpost is a private limited company wholly owned by the Government of Zimbabwe and has an unrivalled postal network of over 230 outlets spread throughout the country. Zimpost was licensed by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) in accordance with the provisions of The Postal and Telecommunications Act [Chapter 12:05] of 2000. It provides services that cut across mail services, financial services, vehicle licensing, agency services, and Zipfound for lost and found items.
